Telemedicine Makes It Safe to Get Abortion Drugs in the Mail

Every restriction on access to abortion draws the metaphoric walls closer. On who can dispense drugs, on what clinical tests are required first, on how far along the pregnancy can be—the rules are all designed to delay, deter, and delegitimize. It’s a Death Star Trash Compactor. The box around abortion gets smaller and smaller. That’s policymaking; technology, meanwhile, tends to see boxes as something to think outside of. A long-awaited study published this week in the journal Contraception offers a way around tightening regulations: telemedicine. Abortion medication provided by mail, administered by a practitioner working via videoconference, could safely enlarge the geographic footprint of clinics and providers. “Many clinics already use telemedicine for other services,” says Elizabeth Raymond, a researcher …

The #KuToo campaign reflects a long history of female repression and suffering, says author Summer Brennan Were used to talking about high heels in terms of fashion, fantasy and even feminism. But were somewhat less accustomed to speaking about them as business etiquette and workplace obligation even though, to many women, thats exactly what they represent. While many wear high heels for fun and self expression, countless others wear them because of industry standards, or even because their boss says they have to. But why? Transgender bodybuilder wants to lift up his community

(CNN)As a kid growing up in Texas, Ajay Holbrook’s video-game avatars always had a similar look — a bearded dude with tattoos and bulging muscles. That child with the muscular avatar was assigned a female sex at birth. He remembers sadly looking in the mirror bandaging and taping up his breasts to try and hide them, cutting off his long hair against his mother’s wishes and crying, praying to wake up as boy. “I always saw myself as a male figure. I was always into sports instead of girly stuff. I would get my dad to buy me boys’ clothes so I could match my brother.” “Tomboy” was a word that Holbrook heard a lot growing up near Sugar Land, …

I Was An NBA Wife. Here’s How It Affected My Mental Health.

Walking into the Bradley Center, I could feel the excitement. The fans, the bass-heavy music blaring, the smell of popcorn and the bright lights of the Jumbotron: This was the symphony better known as an NBA pregame. This was my first game as the fiancée of the Milwaukee Buck franchise player Michael Redd.  My heart raced as I politely passed by the other, impeccably dressed ladies. When I looked down at myself, I saw the schoolteacher and preacher’s kid I was ― I looked professional but far from glamorous. Every single detail of these women was perfectly in place, down to their shoes, which were equally as amazing as their handbags. I was completely out of my element, and my …

Siege: Trump under Fire by Michael Wolff review

Michael Wolffs second bite at the Trump presidency speculates on how the fiasco will end The Trump presidency began as Kim Jong-un, Michael Wolffs siege of Mafeking, let alone that of Leningrad. The war of attrition waged by Wolff and his fellow journalists has hardly worn Trump down; he retains the freedom of the air, tweeting out a daily barrage of lies and insults and jetting off to stoke up bigots in midwestern arenas or embarrass foreign heads of state who wince as they welcome him on to their soil. Mostly Siege retells scandalous stories that are pretty familiar, with few fresh disclosures. Despite the indiscreet tattle dribbled into his ear by the disgruntled Melania in hospital for a week …

So, first things first. What is microplastic? Microplastics are micro-sized pieces of plastic derived from the degradation of larger plastic products, among other sources. Their ubiquity is so widespread, …
